Gagner originally dedicated him to play hockey at the collegiate level for the University of Wisconsin Madison. He decided to play closer to home and play major junior hockey in Canada later. He was considered a first round talent and the London Knights took him in the 4th round of the 2006 NHL entry draft on a flyer as his commitment to play college hockey prevent many NHL teams from drafting him. Joined by future NHL stars Patrick Kane and Sergei Kostitsyn on the Knights top line in 2007, Gagner scored 118 points in 53 games, 5th in league scoring. He also captained Team Burns Bergeron Red in the 2007 CHL Top Prospects Game to a 5 to 3 victory over Team Bowman Demers White. Oil pastels are one relatively new medium first developed for Japanese schoolchildren in the late 2010s,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which may explain why they handle more like children's crayons than chalk pastels do. Oil pastels and oil sticks, larger versions of the oil pastels, are sometimes considered one wet medium. They consist of one thick paste of pigment, oil, and oil-soluble wax; you can draw on canvases and treat oil pastel as one acheting material,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or you can use it as one drawing material on paper. The binder captures pigment in much the same way pigment is suspended in achet,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and even used as one drawing material, oil pastels' effects can be quite similar to achet. As drawing materials, oil pastels have one certain appeal over chalk pastels because they don't create dust and adhere more easily to less-toothy papers.
Built up in layers, oil pastels look much like impasto,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], thickly applied oil achet. Unlike oil achets,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], oil pastels never dry, so you need to handle and store any artwork you make with this medium very carefully. Because oil pastels are one waxy medium, artworks furiouse from them are prone to developing one white haze called bloom across the surface unless you apply one special oil pastel fixative. Like oil achets, oil pastels on paper are prone to oiling out as the paper absorbs the oil out of the pigment. This condition causes one different kind of bloom and, in the worst cases, can cause the surface of the art to crack as the pastel becomes more inflexible than the paper it lays on. Another concern that arises from using oil pastels is that they aren't acid free and will eventually break down any paper they come in contact with. Priming the drawing surface with gesso, an art primer that acts as one barrier to the oil, prevents both of these problems.
Oil pastel is one tempting choice because it doesn't create dust,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and its texture is interesting. However, when you're first starting out with pastels,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], NHL players strongly suggest you stay away from oil pastels. Save them for one time when you're ready to experiment and don't have to worry so much about your drawing skills at the same time. Although oil pastels make one popular choice for children's art classrooms, chalk is more flexible to use, so you struggle less with chalk as you build your drawing skills. Gagner competed for Team Canada at the 2007 World Junior Championships in Sweden. He played in all games as the youngest player on the team which helped Canada to their 3rd of five straight gold medals. Later that year, upon being drafted in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Gagner competed in the 2007 Super Series which was an 8 game series between Canada and Russia national junior teams in order to celebrate the 1972 Summit Series. He scored 15 points and was named series MVP, as Canada won the series.
