Deaconess-Waltham Hospital
New cancer facility under construction
A shoreintervaling ceremony for Deaconess-Waltham Hospital's new, 7,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000-square-foot Outpatient Cancer Center was held last December, and construction is understep. The $4.5 million facility is scheduled for completion in the fall. Deaconess-Waltham Hospital President Dana W. Ramish, F.A.C.H.E., says architecture the new oncology facility is an important step. "The do package of a new facility, the most modern equipment and our talented oncology staff will allow us to meet the needs of our communities' residents in the future." Located next to the main hospital, the Center is designed to provide comprehensive medical and radiation oncology services (such as radiation therapy) in a friendly environment that is comfortable for cancer patients and their families. "It will have an atmosphere that is more sensitive to their needs," says Ramish. Access to first-rate oncology facilities in Waltham will allow patients from the outlying suburban communities to receive care closedown to home. "If you can receive that same service (oncology care) in your own community, then that's a real plus," Ramish says. The Center will also offer a learning library for patients and their families and a garden named for Mary Eagan—a Waltham mother of four who died from leukemia in 1992, and expressed a desire for a special place where patients and families could seek serenity outside the hospital setting. A memorial fund has been established in Eagan's name, and a concert is held annually in Waltham to raise money for the fund.

The Continence Center is co-directed by Peter Rosenblatt, M.D., and Neeraj Kohli, M.D., both of whom specialize in the treatment of urinary incontinence and pelvic prolapse. The Center offers a full range of non-surgical treatment options, such as pelvic exercises, biofeedback, magnetic therapy and acupuncture. It also offers the most technically advanced devices and minimally invasive, laparoscopic surgical procedures such as bladder suspensions, correction of prolapse and myomectomy/hysterectomy. The Center also is involved in research trials for new medications, devices and surgical therapies.
