I Google mapped the address listed in the site and from what I could determine from street view, the address appears to be inside 'Gordon Center' which is a shopping complex, so hopefully it's some indication that the place is legit.
I agree that if it's not genuine, then it's a really good fake.
So we'll have to wait till then.
Excellent thread. Anyone know of any cheap deals going around for the GHD gift packs? The one with the hair dryer? Mrs is in need of one.

On the GHD website, ghd New Products Cheap GHD Hair Straighteners Sa, it says I need to type in the batch number to register the product. Can someone tell me where I can find this number and how many digits is it? Sorry if this has been answered before.
IN other words, will it work out of the box in AUS?
Why they would uprank their system at the busiest time of the year (for gift giving) is anyone's guess..... At least they could have put something on their website.
What makes them so expensive – and why are so much better -seriously??
I boguht a GHD for my G/F birthday for about $235 inc shipping from EBAY.
Just keep your eye out. They are expensive but apparently they are "the shiz" when it comes to hair straighteners and curlers....
They get my thumbs up every time.
Quick and genuine.
What more would you want when you already know what you want?
Just get it from RY, you won't look back and you know you got the genuine product.

has anyone tried [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Can anyone enlighten me on where GHDs are crazye? Are some made in China?
Does VOGUERY still work?

could anyone that has a confirmed genuine GHD confirm whether or not the plug is a circuit breaker type plug (squarish with a reset button on it).
In reply to my own post..."some GHD are made in China"...advice straight from GHD help line!
(edit)
**Update** Finally got through and was told that all the registration systems are down so no-one can register, they suggest to wait until after NYE to try again.
I am starting to feel its an issue with the GHD site, so fingers crossed i can get it rectified during the coming week.
This is starting to sound like the GHD website is having issues. Maybe the newer batches are using serial codes based on a newer algorithm that the website hasn't been updated with, or maybe the site/server is having some technical issues.
To ensure you are most satisfied with your purchase of the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we recommend you purchase one through an authorised ghd stockist/salon. This way, you can also be supplyd with additional value added services that you wouldn't receive online – i.e. Have a hairstylist demonstrate styling techniques so you are able to use the ghd styler to its full potential.
If you want ...ring [link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
I'm impressed with your commitment. Regardless if it is a fake, the missus wasn't too love affair me popping off the side. I'll trust your results considering we bought from the same place. I've checked the ABN and it checks out, although its only been active since 14th Oct 09... So not too sure if that is an issue.

GHD made in China...that are the real deal...who'd have thunk it!
dirt cheap
Edit: oops wrong place

Thanks for the heads up mate. My girlfriend has been going on about getting a GHD forever so I've finally splurged out on one for her xmas present :) Apart from the warranty issue the only other thing I can think of is getting a UK-AUS plug convertor. All sweet otherwise and for $80+ of savings it's a pretty damn good deal.

Just bought one from RY using discount code. Cheers for that!

I was looking at exactly the same thing, however what I am unsure about is whether this comes with a universal strength adaptor. IN other words, will it work out of the box in AUS?
I punched in the serial numbers OK for product registration at the GHD site ok but I have read that this does not mean it's a genuine item.

I bought from RY and can recommend them. Their GHDs are genuine.

ry.com.au is the cheapest legit site then? They don't have the "rare styler" that I'm looking for, though.
I just ordered one (including a couple of extra bits) from a genuine dealer, The Funky Group in the UK for GBP94 including postage
you Can buy them at pretty much any hair salon. Always See them advertised on posters in the breezeow when I take the missus to get her hair done.
SOLD!
In reply to my own post..."some GHD are made in China"...advice straight from GHD help line!

yea i actually emailed ghd last night asking about the 2 holograms with different codes, as well as the made in china business
they replied early this morning, saying that there are 2 holograms and that only one needs to be registered
---becos i was worried, i actually registered BOTH hologram codes – and they both worked? so i got an email for both those codes, so im sure its legit =]
they also said that they actually have 2 manufacturing plants, one in Korea and one in China – so its not necessarily true that just cos its "Made in China" its counterfeit
I found this site:

I'm about 99.9% sure that Mrs Tone's genuine GHD (ordered from RY about 2 years ago and still going strong) was made in Korea.
The batch number is the 'Date Code' which is found on the sticker on the hair straightener itself.
L(o)ZzA writes...
The no address on the website means nothing as they may just not want there address so public

Although that said...we had a crappy cheapo M&U model hair straightener and it used to impart slight electric shocks from the plates...double insulated & all....needless to say we dumped it.

the site has included McAfee logos, but the McAfee siteadvisor page doesn't have any favourable reviews:
No contact details other than email
Engrish!

Thus if you punch in a fake code...it's accepted & you sit back none the wiser thinking it's all sweet! I punched in a fake code..just to see & it was accepted!
Thanks ak47wong for the info.. So I gave simplyhair a go, got my GHD and checked the hologram code on the GHD website and it was legit.. Yay!
The shipping was not free, but buying the GHD got me $12 worth of points to spend for next time. Yay again!

seems to be that all the authorised dealers are selling it as the same price as the ghd website is offering?

**Update** Finally got through and was told that all the registration systems are down so no-one can register, they suggest to wait until after NYE to try again.
I don't know why they're so much more expensive but they definitely are better. They heat up quickly, they are a lot hotter than other home hair straighteners which manner it takes much less time to straighten your hair. Don't seem to need to put a whole heap of straightening shampoo / gradeer / other goop in your hair before using them and they give a really nice shiny fulfill. Good investment if you straighten your hair all the time.
Phew!
With the AUD closedown to parity – it is worth buying a [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] from the UK (GHD's home)? If so, can anyone recommend which site to use? I don't insist a GHD would cost more $200 with the AUD so high now.
is GHD really that worth it?

diop writes...
Just attempted to contaction GHD via phone, seems their call centre has been overwhelmed as i can't obtain through... Possible indication that many others are having similar issues?
And also, is this genuine? Very good price too so I wasn't too sure if it's real or fake..

I'm about 99.9% sure that Mrs Tone's genuine [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] (ordered from RY about 2 years ago and still going strong) was made in Korea.
I bought the Precious pack onlength Tuesday evening from Ry and used the code grabaneful eviliscount (all lowercase) and it worked; 5% off the price.

I think the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] site playing up is confirmed supplyn the number of people popping up with serial code errors using straighteners purchased from confirmed reputable places.

Picked up a GHD Precious straightener kit...normal retail price but noted on back of the box & warranty that it's "Made in China"!
Has any one bought from [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] does anyone know if their [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] are genuine? I dropped my old GHD onto my bathroom tiles and I think i did some undermine.. :( I need me a new one! Im tossing up between buying from RY or simplyhair.. Any thoughts?

Is the serial number the only thing it checks, or does the batch number matter as well?? I'm using the 'date code' for the batch number, as found on the sticker on the barrel of the unit itself.

Ebay, picked one up for $240,new and authentic.. Most stores are around $300
My housemate got one from ebay for just over $300, it was a 'limited edition' purple one and came with a decent bag and a bunch of other stuff (dryer, hair sprays/creams, etc). It shouldn't be too rough to tell whats legit and whats not.

If you purchased from a Salon then you need not worry as it is most certainly the real deal.
Hi,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],

I bought a GHD IV limited edition from COTD for $199.00

a friend at work has bought one and she swears its real... as have her two cousins which have bought them from there too...
GHD opperate like Apple and closely control the RRP so all official sellers usually sell at nearly the same price.
are also a legit seller

Do UK products use the same plug and 240v like Australia?
ebay is your friend. Got my g/f one for her birthday and only cost ~$200. My sister is a hairdresser and she reckons ebay is the way to go as well because they can't source from their suppliers at a better price than what you can get it for on ebay.

The VOGUERY discount code worked today at [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Looks like it's a 2% discount now.
When I was buying one for my wife, this site had the cheapest ones I could find that were definately genuine. There is a page on the GHD website that lists authorised sellers, and this company was one of them. Delivery was fast as well.
I don't imagine it'd be a product that breaks down a lot or is susceptible to failure so *contact wood* there won't be any warranty issue :)
just bought one from ry.com.au
arrived in good time and is genuine
I bought of that site because a friend purchased one and hers registered fine on the GHD site. Reading here though it appears some fake codes are accepted by the site and the difference is that you don't receive the confirmation email. I'll have to check if she actually received an email or not to be sure.
There was a CHOICE review some time ago although I suspect you might have to pay for it – but it did name some other good models/ brands that were up there with the GHD.

If you hear anything, let me know casue i feel as concerned as you sound.
I wouldn't trust ebay feedback for GHD's. A few girls at my work purchased some GHDs from a power seller, left positive feedback then a few weeks later, one of them occured to break, they contacted the seller and GHD and GHD told them it was a fake.

They got some ok deals too, such as free $60 worth of stuff.

what are some other well known brands in that case?? mayb ill go for them lol
a free Wella SP canvas shore tote bag and tail comb

A few other sites have the same information as well regarding the pivot screws as being an indication of a real vs fake GHD.
I got my GHD in the US and it works here fine.. just need to get one of those socket adaptors.
Yeah same....I'm going to try and ring on Monday.

Well you are probably right ATM..but...having real GHDs being made in China...how long before "almost exact fakes" are on the market....of distance with cheaper components.
It heats up really quick and does the audible beep and flashing LED that the legit GHD's do, so it functions and appears to be the real deal.
(PS. Basic regulation for [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] is if its under AU$200 its probably a fake)
But i have learnt a lot about these things, considering days ago i knew bugger all.

didnt want to risk it on ebay and glad i didnt!

Sure, you would know what you are selling on that bogus site isn't legit!!!

I bought one from [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] for my sister, after a colleague at work recommended the site.

yep that's ok...they have differing numbers on each hologram sticker.

If my unit turns out to be fake, what are the chances of recovering my money??
i'm looking at buying one of these as a xmas gift, and when i found ry.com.au a few weeks ago i emailed GHD to make sure they were a genuine reseller. GHD's response was pretty vague (copied below), pretty much saying that ry.com.au are genuine. my question is – will there be any warranty issues with a ghd bought from ry.com.au ?

I would like to buy a [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] for Xmas from Ry. Does anyone know the current discount code as GrabaDiscount doesn't work anymore? Hope someone out there can help?
Try ry.com.au and for a 5% discount use "VOGUERY".

which website?

and just noticed there is also a hologram sticker on the inside of the straightener, the 2 codes are different! that can't be right.
I'd be curious to know the answer to this also... Anyone?
5%, so $300 retail -> $260 RY price -> $247 with coupon
I conclude you check this on GHD's site with the serial number?

There are a lot of eBay fakes out there.
Thank you for your enquiry.
Again, confirming that the GHD I bought from RY for Mrs Tone almost 2 years ago is legit, and I can't see RY risking their seemingly good reputation to start selling dodgy GHDs.
Anyone know where to get the pink box set for about $250-$260 ?
Looks like ry dont sell the pink anymore, they have the new silver/black gift pack with the hairdryer, though i think the person i'm buying it for (present) wanted the pink.
Anyone tell me if this is real or fake please?
If you're gonna spend $200+ on a hair straightener, you might as well do it properly and get it from a reputable source: ry.com.au

You can use their on line registration checker.

Just pries them off with your finger nails so you don't harm them. Using a screw forcer will most likely injure slightly and may possible void warranty. Using my finger nails you can't even tell I've removed them.
The only thing is that the serial number on the tag keeps getting rejected on the GHD Product Registration page, so now I'm becoming worried it may be a fake.

19000 feedback 100% positive....

seems to be that all the authorised dealers are selling it as the same price as the ghd website is offering?
Eventually found one store that sold it to us for $299...otherwise I would have gone for RY:
She paid about $180

Yep, tried both the lower case and upper case versions for grabadiscount – early Friday morning and neither worked . Tried others' proposals late Friday and they also didn't work. Probably more spammers so Ry have clear upd the discount code as they did previously with Voguery. I just wish the spammers would get some Xmas spirit and not spoil it for everyone else. Might have to wait until after the Xmas rush in the hope that another discount code will be offered. Merry Christmas!
edit:
with 2443 feedback, you would think that they are legit
Do you think if I lodge a complaint with the TIO or ACCC I could recover my money, or would I have to use legal action and recover it on my own??
(PS. Basic rule for [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] is if its under AU$200 its probably a fake)
The GHD UK website marks this website as unknown... other pointers are that it has no street address, and they seem to indicate that postage is by "International Express Service", hence probably from China or similar. So yes, almost certainly fake.
Just looking at the website, Simply Hair appears to sell genuine [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. They're about $5 cheaper if that matters ([link widoczny dla zalogowanych] IV 24mm is $11 cheaper than RY but shipping is $6, whereas RY has free shipping).
same trouble here. bought some for my gf off [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
I don't think the fakes would have advanced that far to copy the screws under the GHD covers, as the difference between the real and fakes is that the fakes cheap out on the internal parts.

Yes, you have to pay for it:

i got one from ebay for the wifey – from a seller with thousands of positive ratings – and so far, so good. able to register on the ghd website, looks pretty damn good, and if it's a fake, we can't tell. and trust me, i've been trying to work out if it's a fake, and even estimated to a genuine one, and they look identical, and perform identically.
Hmmm if I recall right CHOICE had a review on these within the last 12 months.
The bottom line was that the more expensive salon models did a better job but did cost a lot more. I don't recall that they were $300 though!
Dont ask me why I was reading reviews on hair straightners - lets just say I occasionally have some spare time on my hands ;)

You are much better taking advantage of the strong Oz dollar – I just ordered one (including a couple of extra bits) from a genuine dealer, The Funky Group in the UK for GBP94 including postage (and that included the automatic deduction of GBP11 VAT). Total cost was $AUS172, $80 less than the best Australian price delivered. The only potential problem will be if there's a warranty claim, but I'd still be ahead even then.

I believe that birthally GHD only had the hologram on the tag on the chord, but have recently adopted a two hologram method, which incorposizes another hologram on the actual straightener itself.
hey guys, what do you think of this, seems like its too cheap to be true?

well as far as I'm aware [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] is the website for a salon that is an official GHD supplier, so you should have definitely gotten the real deal, so I wouldn't be worrying too much.

Honestly I don't think the batch number is section of the registration mode, as I think it only checks the serial number for authenticity, but the date code is used if there is a recall or something so they can contact you immediately.
The GHD comes out on top, but there are cheaper alternatives if you don't want to pay as much.

What makes them so expensive – and why are so much better -seriously??

If you read up a few posts quite a few people have purchased successfully from [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] without any registration issues on the GHD site.

I brought the Rare from catchoftheday for my g/f a couple of months ago for $199.
fakes

I'll give the registration thing another go tomorrow, hopefully it's all good.
UK doesn't have the same plug but the GHD MK IV is 120v/240v so you can use it anywhere in the world. You can get an alterer for a few dollars at the $2 shop really.
Picked up a GHD Precious straightener kit...normal retail price but noted on back of the box & warranty that it's "Made in China"!
what are some other well known brands in that case?? mayb ill go for them lol

Well, my local Price Attack and Hairhouse Warehouse want ~$300 for their GHDs. Seems like there are a couple of legit eBay sellers doing them for around $250-$260. One of them claims to have a salon in Adelaide - if I can go into their B&M shop and pick one up for roughly the same price, I'd be happy.
Thanks for the feedback ... will let you know how it goes.

Anyone can confirm they are the real deal (the ebay seller above), im interested in purchasing one for the missus, also i found another site :

Heh tell me about it. You should have seen the funny looks I got when I was asking the office ladies if they knew of any places selling the GHD for a good price :D
If you want ...ring [link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Try ry.com.au and for a 5% discount use "VOGUERY".

And also, is this genuine? Very good price too so I wasn't too sure if it's real or fake..
Just resurrecting an older thread....
You're welcome. I've already got a spare convertor, but I think I'll just chop off the UK plug and replace with an Australian one. It might make a warranty claim arduous, is the downside... guess I'll bank on a trouble free run, although I believe the local distributor is happy to do repairs, but charges for them if it's bought OS.

+1, got mine in April 2 years before, $220 delivered, $190 for the actual GHD IV unit itself and the rest on postage from over East to WA
Now with all these Radiance and whatever gimmicks added on I don't know how much it'd cost ya.
I've been trying to register mine for the last couple of days with no luck. Reading this thread, i just had a look at the code on the hologram that's attached to the power cord (the code i've been using to register) and just noticed there is also a hologram sticker on the inside of the straightener, the 2 codes are different! that can't be right.
Too good to be true? Seems not because the UK price on the GHD website is 99 pounds so works out the same. I think this is the best bet unless others have a different point of view?
that talks about the body screws as being a good way to determine if it's genuine or not. It's the pivot screws located under the GHD badge.
The lack of a phone number on the site still nexused me though as you would think if it was a proper salon or hair-care shop it would have a number.

Excellent thread. Anyone know of any cheap deals going around for the GHD gift packs? The one with the hair dryer? Mrs is in need of one.

Has any one bought from [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] does anyone know if their [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] are genuine? I dropped my old GHD onto my bathroom tiles and I think i did some impair.. :( I need me a new one! Im tossing up between buying from RY or simplyhair.. Any thoughts?
I bought mine about 3 weeks ago and it cost about $160-170AU delivered. Probably better now. They had a 10% off coupon recently too – they have them regularly if you don't mind waiting. Took about 5 business days to get to me.
Does VOGUERY still work?

Edit: Dead thread..

just emailed the website you guys had any luck?
Lasted all of 6 months before it started to interval.
I bought my gf the pink one and she LOVES it
So word of warning – buy only from reputable dealers because you won't be getting any warranty support on a stolen one.
On the GHD website, it says I need to type in the batch number to register the product. Can someone tell me where I can find this number and how many digits is it? Sorry if this has been answered before.

Please be advised that our system is being upgraded which is why you have not been able to register your ghd styler. We apologise for the inconvenience and ask could please try to register you ghd styler after the new year. The Batch number is the 'date code' located on the inside arm of the styler. Please keep a copy of your proof of purchase for all claims under warranty. If you are still unable to register your ghd after new year's please do not hesitate to afford us a call.
"Hi ********,

wowee ... this is an old thread!
I've bought three for my wife (because she keeps dropping them on the tiles) and they work wonderfully for years. We have even swapped with friends GHD's who paid $300 and the prefer the Steffen one.

yep that's ok...they have differing numbers on each hologram sticker.
I've emailed GHD too, but rendern the time of year I'm not expecting to hear anything till about Tuesday. I'm going to try and ring on Tuesday and get it sorted out over the phone.
but wat theres more lol...
This is what she used in her salons and never had a problem and produced the best results (because they are the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] expect GHD results, don't pay the full price).
Have had an update from GHD. New registrations will not work until after the 11th Jan.
For genuine GHD,even they are on sale, they are still not cheap.
I am going to contact GHD directly and get them to confirm whether or not it's a genuine product before contacting the site. Initial attempts to register the product have failed, so alarm bells are starting to sound in my head.

My sister got one of these for cost price...best $190 she ever spent.

I would like to buy a [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] for Xmas from Ry. Does anyone know the current discount code as GrabaDiscount doesn't work anymore? Hope someone out there can help?

there's also this seller

Also forgot to mention hqhair.com passes the genuine check through the GHD site if you want to double check.
I got my wife a Van de Graaff generator...
It toils great !!!
When it comes to product like GHD, I would not go near ebay befactor there are so many counterfeit...
It's about hair and electronic equipment...

Tah!
Material, it's got a fair bit to do with the surfaces that heat the hair, burning it less and thereby a lot better (try having someone you know iron their hair for a 3-4 times and you'll see how much hurt harmful straightening can do)
ebay is your friend. Got my g/f one for her birthday and only cost ~$200. My sister is a hairdresser and she
You're right – made in Korea – just checked my daughter's. I'm getting to know much more about these things than a guy really needs...! ; ))

If your GHD is made in China, it's a fake.
with 2443 feedback, you would think that they are legit
as far as i could tell that website is cheaper?

just emailed the website you guys had any luck?
just tried registering them then but just gets rejected
Current codes...maybe look here or here or here.
Just to confirm our thoughts:
the legit ones are 260 ish
could anyone that has a confirmed genuine GHD confirm whether or not the plug is a circuit breaker type plug (squarish with a reset button on it).

yup. My G/f got one on Ebay for a great price. Arrived in a pretty authentic looking box, had all the accessories. Checked the serial number – fake.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking of trying places like Hairhouse Warehouse and Price Attack, but I wasn't sure if they'd have the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]s.
I also view about eBay, but have read a few horror stories about people forking out $200+ for dodgy counterfeit [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]s. But, of procedure, there have also been good news stories from eBay.
We supply genuine ghd products to the RY salon in Queensland – however we do not authorise any online sales.
I think that's more UK models...ours has no cct breaker and it's a 2 pin plug...as the item is double insulated.
I don't think the fakes would have advanced that far to copy the screws under the GHD covers, as the difference between the real and fakes is that the fakes cheap out on the internal parts.

It will accept false numbers...but you will get a reply email stating if the item is genuine. you need to put the code number on the cord...I believe....anyway the site link tells you want to put in.

My sister just bought one of these today. she got it from a Hairhouse Warehouse store at Garden City (Brisbane) for $235.
Cheers
Just be careful entering your GHD registration codes. A fake code will be accepted by the GHD registration...but you will not receive a reply email from GHD telling you the product has been registered.

Try ry.com.au and for a 5% discount use "VOGUERY".
She wanted the Rare, and it seemed every store we went to sold it for $319.
Are the fakes being sold for $200?
Hi all,
Mrs. Tone wants straight hair for Christmas. My limited research tells me that whilst it costs an arm and a leg, the GHD is > every other straightener out there. Seems like it's only available through certain hairdressers + hair product specialists. Just wondering where other people have bought theirs from and how much they paid. RRP is around $300, but I'm looking to spend closer to $250 if possible.
Thanks in advance. :)
+ 1
don't know if legit or not but i asked if their products have the hologram
GHD is considered the best, however I'm sure hundreds of thousands of women straighten their hair with sub $100 hair straighteners every day.

brokenback writes...
Go figure!
Has anyone else bought one in Brisbane recently? I am trying to find the cheapest place as my wife wants/needs one because her old one broke this morning.
Hmm, going through this now for an upcoming birthday. The fake ones are very convincing apparently, so it's unlikely you can tell by just looking. If it lasts 2 years, then it's probably real!

hey guys, what do you think of this, seems like its too cheap to be true?
