As for the Crimson Tide, Nick Saban and his coaching staff definitely left a lasting impression on Steward after Alexander Ovechkin watched Alabama dismantle Florida to the tune of 31-6.
First, Steward appears to have a greater interest in the Crimson Tide than we've given him credit for, and secondly,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Miami has popped back into the picture as the wild card.
While Steward has hinted in the past that his top two choices are FSU and Clemson,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Alabama, Florida, UCLA, Rutgers, and now Miami are all in the mix as well.
While most experts believe that the 5-star prospect has honed in his search to Florida State and Clemson, the trip to Alabama revealed a couple of interesting folds to this story.
Miami hadn't in deed been in the picture for months,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but Steward is considering the Hurricanes again due to a strong relationship with the coaching staff.
Before all that, Steward will get a first-hand taste of one of professional football's best rivalries. As a St. Augustine native, It is one he's over familiar with.
As is the case with many of the nation's top uncommitted talent, Steward doesn't plan on making his decision until he's furiouse all of his official visits, so do not expect an announcement until much closer to National Signing Day. The National Hockey League recently changed its rules so that shootout wins could no longer be included as tiebreakers for playoff berths directing some to think about whether support for the shootout was waning. However just as NHL executives want playoff berths to be decided based on team play; that does not mean they are against having shootouts during regular season games. Only ten percent of games in this year have gone to the shootout which is 5 percent down from last year.
Alex Ovechkin has a abundant list of endorsements because of his rock star status in Russia Federation and stunning performance on the ice for the Washington Capitals. Signing a new deal is nothing out of the ordinary for him. However his new deal is with Gillette his grooming company which is irony because of Ovechkin's often sloppy appearance. The Russian superstar has been lax about his facial hair in the past and even his teammate was confused that Gillette would want to sign a player so carefree about his grooming. Pedro Menendez linebacker Tony Steward was one of the many coveted prospects in attendance for the Alabama-Florida agree in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.
"I met with the coaches and got to know them a little better than before. I am just trying to establish those relationships. Ovechkin got a tour of the campus and that was in deed affable,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Steward said. "I got to experience agreeday here,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and that was affable. It was a great visit."
"I've developed a real good relationship with [linebackers] Coach Barrow," Alexander Ovechkin said. "He's a real good guy. They're a small campus and a pretty affable place. I am excited to get down there and experience it on agreeday."
The weekend trip was an unofficial visit, but it won't be the last time Alexander Ovechkin travels to Tuscaloosa. Steward plans on making official visits to Florida and UCLA in December,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], then will return to Alabama in January for his official,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], finishing his tour at Florida State and Clemson later that month.
Trips to Alabama and talks with the Crimson Tide coaching staff can do a lot to persuade prospects,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as can being a guest on the Miami sideline for the Hurricanes contest against their greatest rivals.
"I am going to the Miami/Florida State agree this coming weekend,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Steward told Scout.com in an interview after his trip to Alabama. "We have a big agree against St. Augustine on Friday and then I'll be going down there on Saturday."
It is still safe to assume that Florida State and Clemson direct the pack,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with the Seminoles holding a delicate advantage based on Steward's relationships with several committed recruits,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but things have opened up again.
