know how were always talking about OEM and Factory Original and stuff like that? Well, Aftermarket parts are the complete opposite. Factory Original Parts include the logo from the manufacturer that it comes from. Lets say for example I have OEM Saturn Vue Rims [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], do you see how the little trademark is in the center of the actual wheel? Aftermarket parts are the exact same thing, but without the little symbol. Some people prefer Aftermarket parts because they think they look better, and some just like to stick to the Factory Original parts because it feels more authentic and not so cheesy; but theres benefits and disadvantages to both options.
Aftermarket: Benefits & Disadvantages
Aftermarket pieces are also known as Replicas, but there is no difference. When it comes to hubcaps, most people would buy Aftermarket pieces because they tend to have a better clipping system than the Factory ones; I have no idea why, but thats the way it works. I think its mostly cause they know people want Original ones [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but the Aftermarket people try to improve it and make them better than the OEM one so that way customers can keep buying Replica pieces, you know? Anyway, not only are there Replica hubcaps out there, but also Aftermarket wheels. Have you see the Lexani Wheels? If you havent, you need to check them out. They have like diamonds, crystals, and every other expensive thing that you can think of built into them. Of course theyre really expensive [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but I mean, there is no Aftermarket company that has been more successful.
The only thing with these parts is that when someone has them on their wheels, your vehicle may not look legitimate. And since they may be a little more expensive than you plan on paying, you may think that its not worth it since its not even the real thing. And if you only need one, then all of your wheels are going to have the logo on it except for one... which may look a little funky.
Factory Original: Advantages & Drawbacks
Factory Original pieces on your car always look great. Especially if you have like Ford Thunderbird Wheels or something, everyone would take more than a small glance at it. These parts are the ones that had originally come with your car, so you know that youre getting the real thing and nothing thats worth less. OEM parts are always the parts recommended that you have on your car because they enhance performance and just pretty much allow the car function to its full potential.
With Factory Original parts, some may be easy to find and some may be extremely hard. Lets say you have like OEM 1980 Ford Mustang Wheels and youre trying to find the center cap for your Alloy Rim; since its kind of old and a genuine cap, you may or may not find it-if you find it, then I have to say you are SUPER lucky. And even if you do find it, theyre most likely going to be used and kind of full of scratches. Sure you can get it refinished and everything, but how much would it cost? I think that someone would honestly be better off either buying a whole new set of OEM parts or deciding to order replicas; but thats just my personal opinion.
So if youre deciding on buying Aftermarket / Replica pieces, I sure hope that this article helped (: Feel free to visit us at OriginalWheels.com for all of your wheel needs.
