Trent [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]’ first two games as the Redskins' starting left tackle included matchups against elite pass rushers DeMarcus Ware and [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], valuable measuring sticks for a young player.
None of that compares to what he will encounter Sunday night with Indianapolis defensive end Dwight Freeney.
“I don’t know if anybody in the world can prepare you for Freeney,” Trent [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] said Thursday at Redskins Park. “He’s just a different type of guy. He brings a load of different moves. You have to study him and even then, you’re not really safe because he brings everything.”
Freeney has 87 career sacks, including three this year. He uses athleticism and a large catalog of moves to scream past left tackles and rip through double teams.
“It’s nerve-wracking,” [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] said. “You definitely think about it when you go to sleep at night. He’s that dominant of a player.”
Of concern to the Redskins is [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]’ left knee, injured on the final play of regulation against Green Bay. He went through the whole practice Thursday.
“I think I’ll pretty much be ready to go,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],” he said. “When it initially happened, it felt a lot worse than it is. I was blessed to even be walking after seeing the play. It brought chills to my spine when I saw it on film.”
In addition to Freeney, the Redskins must [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] account for Robert Mathis at the other end position. He leads the Colts with four sacks.
“They’ve got a lot of skill,” coach Mike Shanahan said. “I’ve been going against them for a long time. Even when the tackles are healthy, there’s concern about those two defensive ends. They obviously do a great job consistently. Everybody better have a plan for them.”
Davis Staying Positive
Tight end Fred Davis is playing but not [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] making big plays – he’s been limited to three catches in five games.
Davis has played an unofficial 37 percent of the Redskins’ offensive snaps (115 of 311) this year. Chris Cooley has played every snap and is second on the team with 23 catches.
“It’s frustrating but I can’t really let my emotions get wrapped up in that because we’re winning and that’s all that matters,” Davis said. “My time will come sooner than later.”
Knowing Cooley’s durability and talents, Davis said he “kind of figured [fewer opportunities would come his way] anyway. You don’t see too many two-tight end sets getting the ball [equally].
“You really want to make plays because you [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] see other guys making plays and you want to contribute, too, in that way. But I’m contributing in a different way by blocking.”

Haynesworth Returns

Defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth is back with the Redskins following a week away due to his half-brother’s death in a motorcycle accident. He did not address the media during the open locker room period, opting to sit on a couch near the back door of the facility.
Shanahan said Haynesworth will be a game-time decision.
“He obviously went through a tough six days,” [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Shanahan said. “We’ll see where he’s at both mentally and physically and make the decision right before the game. We understand what happened and the crisis he was dealing with.”
Quick Kicks
• For the second time in three weeks, heavy rains forced a change in the practice plans. Instead of working outside at 12:20 p.m., the Redskins boarded buses for Dulles International Airport and walk-though in a hangar.
Linebacker Rocky McIntosh (concussion) did [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] not practice for a second straight day. He will meet with a team doctor Friday, who will decide whether to clear McIntosh for contact.
• Redskins punter Hunter Smith spent the first 10 years of his NFL career with the Colts and quarterback Peyton Manning.
“It was really a privilege to play with him and be in the locker room with him,” Smith said.
Of Manning’s famous work ethic, Smith said: “It’s [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] really a lifestyle for him to study an opponent. He won’t go into a game unless he’s absolutely ready and certain that, at the snap, he’ll have his team in a look that is going to be a positive.”
