ICT Resource Nominated for Edublog Award
The Edublog Award 2006 nominations have been announced - with voting closing midnight GMT Saturday 16 December 2006 - and we're pleased to be able to make one of the nominated resources available through Teaching Expertise. The Coming of Age booklet was editedby Terry Freedman,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], of ICT in Education. It brings together 13 writers with specialist knowledge of new internet developments (otherwise known as Web 2.0) and how they can be used in education. As Terry writes: "The purpose of this booklet, which brings together the expertise and experience of a range of leading-edge practitioners,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is to provide a gentle introduction to Web 2.0 to teachers who aren't at present too sure of what it's all about."In Coming of Age, teachers can learn about RSS, blogging, photo-sharing, podcasting, wikis, social bookmarking and all the other exciting things that are transforming the web.Coming of Age has been nominated in the Most Influential Post,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Resource or Presentation 2006 category, along with:Barbara Ganley: Finding Our Way through the Edublogging LabyrinthDanah Boyd and Henry Jenkins: MySpace and Deleting Online Predators Act (DOPA)K12 Online Conference 2006To download your copy of Coming of Age, click here.
The Court of Appeal pointed out that R and F's submission in the county court was of overt, conscious racism, and it was not prepared to find that there had been unconscious discrimination. The decisionThe Court of Appeal said that, unlike the ordinary civil claim where the judge decides, on the claimant's evidence only, whether the claimant has made out a case, in this case the judge had had the benefit of the whole of the evidence. Despite the school's failure to comply with the statutory requirements, the judge had been entitled to find on the basis of all the evidence that R and F had not proved racial discrimination.
